HURFOM: Since January 9th, 2024, there has been ongoing and heavy armed conflict between the military junta and the local resistance forces in Kyone Long (old) village, Ye Township, Mon State.

The military junta has blocked the way to reach the “Ye Chaung Phyar” area which is a safe zone for displaced villagers.

Local villagers reported HURFOM that since January 10th, the junta has also limited transportation of rice, food and dry foods to Kyaung Yaw village, Ye Chaung Phyar area, creating food shortages in the area.

There is a shortage of rice and food in Ye Chaung Phyar area. Even rice shops don’t have rice. The Three Pagoda Pass route is the only way to transport rice,” said one Ye Chaung Phyar resident.

The military junta has also blocked all village roads leaving local residents and social workers in a humanitarian crisis.

We’re using the Three Pagoda Pass route to provide rice, food and items to the displaced villagers,” said an official from the Southern Burma Humanitarian Network.

More than 600 residents from Kyone Long village have had to flee their homes, and are now taking shelter in a liberated area controlled by the New Mon State Party.
