HURFOM: On January 10th, 2024, there was an armed clash between the military junta and the joint forces of the Krean National Liberation Army and its alliances on the Kaw Ka Rate – Kyone Doe Highway Road, Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State.

After the battle, the regiment shot and killed 40-year-old, Ko Way Yan Oo from Ngar Tie village, after accusing him of being a member of the People’s Defense Force.

Then, the regiment informed the village Administrator they wrongly shot and killed Ko Way Yan Oo. They gave his ID card and other personal belongings to the Administrator. The regiment then left the village but his family has not received the remains of Ko Way Yan Oo as of January 15th.

His mother hasn’t been able to console herself, and she has not been able to obtain the body of her son,” said a Kaw Ka Rate resident.

Some residents claim that the regiment burnt and disposed of the body.

The misconduct of the military junta which is targeting innocent civilians who aren’t related to armed conflict is getting worse,” said a local source.

Local villagers reported to HURFOM that soon after the armed clash, the Kyone Doe based 545th and 546th Light Infantry Battalions had targeted Mi Ga Lon, Ye Bu and Kamma Right village with additional artillery attacks.
