Nearly 3,000 displaced villagers face shortage of food in Long Lone

January 16, 2025

HURFOM: In the third week of December, 2024, an armed clash between the military junta and the joint armed revolutionary forces broke out in Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division.  As a result, nearly 3,000 local villagers from six villages including Kyauk Ni Maw, Za Lut, Kyauk Wat Pyin and Ball Pyin villages had to flee their homes.

The junta has banned transportation of rice, food and gasoline in Long Lone Township worsening the burden of food shortages on displaced villagers.

“It’s very difficult to buy rice. We can’t buy any cooking items. The junta’s security gates don’t allow transportation of rice and gasoline. The villagers are faced with a food shortage,” said a local villager.

Currently, some displaced villagers from Kyauk Ni Maw village have returned home but they too have had problems with food and shelter. The junta’s regiment has burnt down more than 100 houses in Kyauk Ni Maw during their military operation.
