Junta arrests two young men, accusing them of being PDF members

HURFOM: On January 12^th, 2025, junta forces were conducting “stop and checks” on the Thaton – Hpa-An Highway Road at Bin Hline Ward, Thaton Town, Mon State. The junta’s security forces arrested two young men who were riding motorbikes after accusing them of being members of the People’s Defense Force.

“There is “stop and check” nearly every day on the Bin Hline Road. The two young men were not aware of this and crossed the road. They decided to do a U-turn but were arrested,” said a local source who witnessed the arrest.

15-year-old Maung Nay Tun from Sa Khan Gyi village and 19-year-old Maung Ye Myint Tun from Nyaung Chaung village, Thaton Township, were both arrested.

According to the source close to the junta, they are both being detained and interrogated at the Thaton-based 1^st Military Basic Training School.

A pro-military Telegram channel accuses both of taking military training and a medic training organized by Brigade #1 of the Thaton District Karen National Union.

According to locals, at least 40 young men from Thaton Township were arrested for military conscription in December, 2024.
