Displaced man who returned home killed by landmine

HURFOM: On January 1st, 2025, a displaced man from Chaung Hna Pauk village, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division returned to his home but was killed by a landmine explosion.
40-year-old U Zaw Min and another unknown villager returned to their homes from the internally displaced persons camp at night when they stepped on a landmine on their way.
U Zaw Min died at the spot while the other villager sustained injuries to his arms and legs.
“They had to cross the (Thane Khun) stream to reach their village. Soon after crossing the stream, they stepped on a landmine. The unknown villager sustained serious injuries to his arms and legs. Now, he’s receiving treatment,” said a local source.
The body of U Zaw Min was cremated on January 2nd, 2025.
On December 18th, 2024, about 300 military junta troop members launched operations targeting the Tenasserim – Tone Khar – Maw Taung roadway. Intense battles have taken place with the local revolutionary armed forces near Yebyu, Tone Khar and Thane Khun villages forcing about 13,000 persons from ten villages to flee their homes.
