HURFOM: Frequent armed conflicts between the military junta and the joint revolutionary forces in Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State, have forced schools in the township to be closed for more than a year.
Schools in Yan Goat, Kaung Hmu, Ye Lell Gone, Out To Tell, Kaw Nwe, Tan Ku, Taw Naw and nearby villages have ceased their operations due to constant armed conflicts.
Rich families have sent their children to urban areas to continue their academic studies but children from families who have to struggle for livelihood have to leave school and go abroad for work.
“Armed clashes are always taking place in this area. None of the villages can open a school. The schools are closed for a long time. If you want to study, you have to go to Mawlamyine or Hpa-An. The poor children have to leave school and go abroad for work,” said a local resident.
Students in primary and middle schools have to move to Kaw Kyike, Tha Yet Taw and Kam Ne villages to continue their study.
Additionally, the junta has been launching air assaults targeting residential villages and buildings. Most residents have had to flee from their homes.
