Junta accuses two youths of being PDF members and arrests them in Thaton

HURFOM: On September 23rd, 2024, the military junta arrested two young men from Inn Kwell village, Ah Nan Pin village tract, Thaton Township, Mon State after accusing them of being the members of the People’s Defense Force.
The joint forces of the military junta were conducting a “stop and check” along the Thaton-Hpa An Highway Road near Htaung Hmuu village when they stopped Maung Win Htike Soe and Maung Soe Moe Tun who were both riding the same motorbike.
They also checked their phone and the junta claimed they found evidence that the two young men werePDF members. Then, they arrested them.
“The two young men are just ordinary villagers. They were just visiting and encountered the junta security team,” said a local source from Inn Kwell village.
According to a pro-military Telegram Channel, the security forces found a photo of two young men wearing military uniform and holding guns on their mobile phones and accused them of being the PDF members.
The two young men have been detained and interrogated at the Thu Dhamma Wa D regional police station, Thaton Township and they have not been allowed to meet with their family members.
“They are no members of any PDF groups in Thaton District. We’ve already made an inquiry. They’re innocent villagers,” said a source who is close to the local PDF.
In Thaton Township, Mon State, the junta routinely arrests young men under various accusations related to security issues and extorts money from their families in exchange for their release.
