HURFOM: On September 18th, 2024, a joint military force consisted of about 20 troops raided “Pine Shin Melt” social and rescue team in Aung Min Galar Ward, Thanbyuzayat Township, Mon State and arrested five members including its chairman.
“After the arrest, they all have been detained at Well Ka Lee based the 4th Advanced Military Training School and the 315th Artillery Regiment. As of today, we don’t know why they were arrested. It’s already two days and we have no trace of them,” said a Thanbyuzayat resident.
Their family members have been worrying about them as they have lost contact with them and not allowed to meet them since after the arrest.
“The junta has been arresting social workers not only in Thanbyuzayat. They’ve also conducted the arrest in Kyike Hto and Lamine (Ye). The recently arrested five members did nothing wrong,” said another Thanbyuzayat resident.
On May 29th, 2024, the junta arrested the chairman and four members of “Lamine Youth and Chairty Group” in Lamine Town, Ye Township and on June 13th, 2024, it also arrested four members of “Kaw Sa Nine Social and Rescue Team” in Kaw Sa Nine Ward, Kyike Hto Town.
Besides arrest by the military junta, there had been causalities of social workers in Mon State due to armed clashes and landmine attacks alongside the Yangon-Mawlamyine-Ye Highway Road.
