HURFOM: On August 16th, 2024, the junta announced the formation of “the Central Body for the Promotion of Public Security and Fight against Terrorism”, and adult men in the 35-65 age range must register for “Village/Ward Public Security Promotion Groups”.
Selected men must also join a short military training, according to the order and instruction released by the junta.
“The instruction has already reached our village. We have to send a list to them within one or two days. After getting the list, they’ll organize a short military training for the candidates. After finishing the training, the candidates will be armed by the junta,” said a source close to the Village/Ward General Administration Department in Mudon Township.
The junta has demanded 600 individuals from each township and after the training, the candidates must serve with the “Village/Ward Public Security Promotion Groups”.
“After failing to form local militia groups, the junta has changed the name and made another move again. Their plan is very similar to the “militia project” but there has been a huge increment in the number of candidates,” said the source.
The number of candidates that the junta had demanded for this group is so high, that each village has to send between ten to 40 adult men for military training. The new order has created chaos within “village/ward administrative bodies” as it is impossible to meet the order for candidates.
