HURFOM: Due to the armed clash between the military junta and the joint resistance forces on November 10th, 2023, more than 3,000 residents from Chaung Hna Kwa, Taung Ka Lay, Kyauk Twelve, Mell Ta Yoe and Hpat Tay Gone villages, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon Sate have fled from their homes.

There has been no armed clash in the area for more than eight months, but more than 800 displaced villagers from Chaung Hna Kaw village are still unable to return to their homes.

We haven’t returned home yet. Some villagers are staying at the base of Chaung Hna Kwa Mountain while some are staying at their relatives’ houses in other cities or villages,” said a Chaung Hna Kwa resident.

The displaced villagers have faced multiple livelihood hardships and they have requested the junta and the director of the township general administration department to allow them return home. However, the authority has denied their request.

The regiment stationed in the village hasn’t allowed us to return home. They said the security wasn’t good enough to return home. Now, we’re away from our home for about eight months,” said a displaced villager.

According to the data collected by HURFOM, two children were killed and ten houses were damaged during the November 10th armed clash. The detonation of the Chaung Hna Kwa Bridge on November 17th, 2023 also created transportation and travel problems for residents in nearby 30 villages.
