27 civilians killed by junta’s artillery attack within six months in Mon State

HURFOM: From January to June, 2024, 27 innocent civilians from Mon State were killed by the junta’s indiscriminate artillery attacks, and another 85 individuals sustained injuries, according to the data collected by the Human Rights Foundation of Monland (HURFOM).
Eight residents from Bilin, six residents from Kyike Hto, five residents from Kyikemayaw, four residents from Ye, three residents from Thaton and a resident from Paung Townships, 27 residents in total, were killed by artillery attacks.
“The area around Kyike Hto, Thaton and Bilin has suffered the worst casualty rates. There had been about 100 artillery attacks within the previous six months,” said a data analyst from HUFROM.
21 residents from Kyike Hto, 20 residents from Bilin, 12 residents from Thaton, 12 residents from Ye, 10 residents from Kyikemayaw and seven residents from Thanbyuzayat Townships sustained injuries from artillery attacks.
“They constantly launch artillery attacks even when there is no armed clash. There have been about 8 casualties or injuries in our village. We can’t sleep well at night. We’ve been worrying when they’ll launch the attack,” said a displaced person from Thaton District.
