Artillery explosion injuries four residents including two monks in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On June 21st, 2024, the 310th artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yat, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State launched two 120-mm artillery attacks on Kha Ywelve village. There was no active armed clash and the artillery shells exploded near “Taung Kyaung” monastery and residential houses.
The explosion injured Kha Ywelve Abbot, his fellow monk, 75-year-old U San Tin and 62-year-old Daw San Myint and destroyed three houses.
“Taung Kyaung Abbot from Kha Ywelve and his fellow monks sustained injuries. Then, two elderly persons beside the monastery were also injured. The monks have minor injuries but the two elderly persons have been sent to hospitals,” said a Kha Ywelve resident.
U San Tin has been sent to Pague Hospital while Daw San Myint has been sent to Thane Za Yat Hospital.
The military junta has launched military operations and artillery attacks every day in Kyike Hto Township forcing residents from 10 villages to flee their homes.
On June 14th, junta’s artillery shell exploded at Kyauk Hat Kwin between Ah Kine and Thone Kwa village and the explosion killed two ten-year-old boys. On June 20th, junta’s troops burnt down and destroyed a village clinic in Pane Nell Gone village.
