No trace of Phar Chaung resident arrested by unknown armed group

HURFOM: On April 30th, 2024, a man from Phar Chaung village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division was arrested by an unknown armed group, and there has been no trace of him since his arrest.

52-year-old U Aye Than was arrested on his way from Phar Chaung to Taung Yin Inn villages.

We don’t know why he was arrested. It’s been 22 days already. There has been no trace of him, and his family members are worrying about him,” said a source close to them.

On May 15th, 2024, 40-year-old U San Win from Taung Yin Inn village was arrested by an unknown armed group and his family has also lost contact with him.

During these days, unknown armed groups frequently threaten (residents from) villages in Kan Bauk area by phone,” said a local source.

On March, 2024, three residents from Yebyu Township were arrested by an unknown armed group and there has been no trace of them since their arrest.
