Junta’s artillery attack kills a local plantation worker in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On May 6th, 2024, the military junta targeted Zee Pyaung #1 village, in Kyike Hto Township, Mon State with an artillery attack that killed a local plantation worker.

According to the statement by the Karen National Union (KNU) the 310th artillery regiment based in Thane Za Yet, launched at least four indiscriminate artillery attacks on the village. The artillery shells dropped and exploded at a rubber plantation and injured 45-year-old worker U Than Aung.

U Than Aung sustained injuries to his left hand and abdomen and his left wrist was nearly severed. He died on May 7th while receiving treatment at a local clinic, stated the KNU.

In this area, there is no day when the military doesn’t launch an artillery attack. The worst thing is that they intentionally targeted the village. If you’re brave enough to stay in the village, just stay there. If not, just run away,” said a resident.

On April 28th, the military junta launched an artillery attack and killed a 67-year-old betel nut plantation worker in Dar Yoe village, Thaton Township.
