Junta conducts more arrest in Kan Bauk

HURFOM: Since the third week of April, 2024, the military junta has been arresting civilians in the Kan Bauk region and nearby villages, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.

According to the local reports, on April 18th, the junta arrested a father and son from Phaung Taw village and on April 19, a couple from Kyauk Tie Ward, Kan Bauk region was arrested. Then, on April 20, another Phaung Taw villager was arrested by the junta.

After arresting U Win Bo and his son in Phaung Taw, the junta arrested a couple from Kyauk Tie Ward the next day. About noon on April 20t, the junta arrested Ko Bu Lel who is a Phaung Taw resident,” said a Kan Bauk resident.

The father and son from Phaung Taw village have been detained at Mawrawaddy Navy Command but the whereabouts of the other three victims are still unknown.

We don’t know where they are and why they have been arrested,” said a Kan Bauk villager.

On April 19th and 20th, troops from the Mawrawaddy Navy Command conducted more searches and arrests in Zar D and Phaung Taw village tracts of the Kan Bauk region. They searched grocery stores, restaurants and houses and arrested local villagers.

In February and March, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command arrested seven Kan Bauk residents.  None have been released as of today.
