Arrival of military in villages forces 4,000 residents to flee

HURFOM: In the last week of March, 2024, military junta’s troops entered and stationed themselves in Ta Ra Nar and Kaw Tut villages, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State. Their presence frightened villagers and led to 4,000 people leaving their homes.
After the revolutionary forces attacked and took control of the Kaw Bane Police Station in Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State, more than 100 troops entered Ta Ra Nar and Kaw Tut villages via the Mawlamyine – Kha Yone Gu route.
“After the Kaw Bane battle, they reached Ta Ra Nar. They’ve stationed themselves in monasteries and village lanes. The villagers dare not stay in the village. They’ve already run away,” said a Ta Ra Nar resident.
Because junta’s troops are active in the villages, residents are afraid and have moved to relatives’ houses in other cities. Some of them are hiding in the caves in the nearby forest.
“The battle can break out any time. Fleeing home is the best option. We’ve heard the sound of aircraft continuously. The elderly are frightened. Now, all of them have already fled home. Only middle-aged men are left in the villages,” said a displaced person.
The junta launched both air assaults and artillery attacks in the Kaw Bane battle and killed a villager and injured three other residents. The entire Kaw Bane village was burnt down and more than 6,000 local villagers fled.
