HURFOM: On February 15th, 2024, junta’s security forces stationed at Ka Dar village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State extorted money from local villagers who were unable to show their ID cards.
The security forces conducted “interrogations” in front of the Ka Dar Police Station on Mudon – Chaung Hna Kwa Road and extorted between 3,000 to 5,000 MMK from the local villagers who failed to show ID cards.
“Each vehicle had to pay at least 5,000 MMK. They extorted money from the villagers who couldn’t show their ID cards. If they found something suspicious while checking their mobile phone, they threatened and extorted money again,” said a woman from Ka Dar village.
If a vehicle transports basic food, the security forces in Ka Dar Police Station ordered the driver to show them everything and checked thoroughly.
The military junta’s troops have stationed themselves in Ka Dar and Taung Ka Lay Police Station, and they have frequently battled with the joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army.
