Junta arrests local man in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: On February 19th, 2024, a local man from Aung Zay Ya Ward, Thanbyuzayat Town, Mon State who was selling construction materials, was arrested by the military junta.
The junta has accused 46-year-old Ko Nan Myint Oo aka Tha Yoke with supporting the People’s Defense Force with bullets he purchased, and arrested him at his home.
“Tha Yoke has been sent to one of the military interrogation centers in Thanbyuzayat but we don’t know the exact place. He was also blocked from meeting with his family members,” said a Thanbyuzayat resident.
The junta stated that Tha Yoke provided financial support twice to the National Union Government (NUG) via a social influencer by the name of “Pan Sel Lo”. Tha Yoke allegedly gave 80,000 MMK in August, 2022 and 20,000 MMK in May, 2023.
The junta has accused Tha Yoke of providing financial support and ammunition to the NUG and the PDF. He has been charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act Sections 50(I), 50(J) and 52(A) and is being detained at the Thanbyuzayat City Police Station.
Since November 30th, 2023, the junta has arrested nearly 100 local residents in Thanbyuzayat accusing them of supporting or being connected with the NUG or the PDF. Two of those arrested were tortured and killed at the military interrogation center.
