Paung resident shot and killed by junta’s forces during arrest

HURFOM: On February 14th, 2024, junta’s forces went to arrest a local man from Ye Twin Gone village in his home, but he was shot and killed during the arrest.  Ye Twin Gone is located in the Kaw Ka Dike village tract, Paung Township, Mon State.

A large military presence was on hand for the arrest of 40-year-old U Than Win Aung, arriving at 11 pm at his home.

He was sleeping at his home when the junta came to arrest him. He tried to run away and was shot. The bullet penetrated his abdomen but he was still alive. The junta arrested him and then took him with them,” said a local source.

The next day, the junta informed his family that he had died.

The junta accused him of being a member of the People’s Defense Force and arrested him. He is actually a Green supporter (USDP – the Union Solidity and Development Party). He lived as a gangster in the village. The military has not yet returned his body to his family,” said a Kaw Ka Diek resident.

On January 26th, 2024, police forces shot and killed an illegal lottery seller from Mottama Town, Paung Township during an attempt to arrest him.

According to a report by the New Rehmonnya Federal Force on February 1st, 2024, 105 civilians in Mon State were killed by the junta during their three-year military regime.
