HURFOM: On November 12, 2023, local people reported to HURFOM that seven-year-old Ma Hnin Thet Way, and eight-year-old Ma San Yadi Oo, both from Paw Law village, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State were killed by a junta air assault.

The joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army attacked the Chaung Hna Kwa Bridge check-point and the police station in Chaung Hna Kaw village, Kyikemayaw Township on November 10, 2023 and a heavy and ongoing battle ensued.

The military junta responded with a reckless air assault that killed two innocent girls.

The fighting is very heavy. The Burmese army launched an air assault and killed two girls who were in hiding. There is lots of damage to houses and livestock. We are living in fear now, we can’t calculate the exact amount of damage,” said a villager.

The battle has been ongoing for three consecutive days and residents from Chaung Hna Kwa and surrounding ten villages fled their homes. Many residents remain stuck in their villages.

On November 13, the Burmese army blocked all streets to stop residents from fleeing their home.

Today, the army has not allowed anyone to leave. They’ve blocked all streets. They’ve allowed me as I’m a monk and have made a request to them. I’ve brought 20 villagers with my car. Other villagers are stuck in the village,” said a local monk.

The local residents who fled their homes on November 11 and 12 are taking shelter at nearby monasteries,  but residents who remain in the villages are in danger for their lives, said local residents.
