HURFOM: In the second week of November, 2023, the military junta began torching houses in villages of Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.
On November 8, a military regiment consisting of 50 troops entered Tha Bot Sake village from Kyauk Sin village via a jungle route and arrested two villagers. Then the regiment marched to Pyin Gyi village and stationed themselves at the village monastery.
On November 9, the locals said the regiment launched an artillery attack and marched to Ka Yin Gyi village.
“When entering the village, they took a villager they arrested. They battled with the PDF for an hour. After that they started burning down houses. I don’t know how many houses were burnt down,” said a resident who ran away.
The villagers said the military junta shot and killed a villager during the battle but HURFOM has not been to confirm this report.
The regiment left Ka Yin Gyi village and launched an attack on Kan Pa Ne village in the morning of November 10.
“They’ve arrested a Ka Yin Gyi villager. They’ve also arrested a Kan Pa Ne resident and let him escort them. They also burnt down houses but we do not know how many houses were burnt down. They haven’t released the two arrested villagers yet,” said a Kan Pa Ne resident.
The regiment entered Pa Nyit village on November 12 and burnt down houses again.
“The regiment has more than 40 troops. As I looked from afar, I saw four houses were burning down. Only the old and children were left in the village. We are worried about them,” said a villager who fled their home.
Due to the military operation, many residents from Tha Bot Sake, Pyin Gyi, Ka Yin Gyi and Kan Pa Ne villages had to flee and are now in dire need of shelter and food.
