Junta burns down 40 houses in Yebyu

HURFOM: On August 14, 2023, the military junta burnt down approximately 40 houses in A Ka Ni village near the Dawei Special Economic Zone, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.
“On that day, there was shooting of heavy and small weapons. A few minutes later, we saw a huge smoke. It looked like the junta burnt the whole row of houses. The houses were on fire till 8 pm,” said a local man.
Locals told HURFOM there was a fighting between the military junta and the People’s Defense Forces before the junta burnt down the houses.
Burmese soldiers are active in and around A Ka Ni village, and they looted valuables from the local homes.
“Yesterday (August 15), near A ka Ni, the junta shot and killed a monk and a villager who had run away from war. No one dares return to their homes as of today. However, one person who secretly visited their village said about 40 houses were burnt down,” said a local man.
On August 11 and 12, the junta also burnt down two houses in Wa Zun Taw village.
