Father of Dawei Strike Committee member charged under section 505(a)

HURFOM: The father of Ko Min Lwin Oo, a member of Dawei Strike Committee, was arbitrarily arrested by the junta on June 19, 2023, and on August 13, was charged under section 505(a) of the Anti-Terrorism Act for defaming the State.
“Ever since he was arrested he has not been allowed to meet his family. Finally after 56 days, the military informed his family they would have their first chance to meet with him. That is when the family learned of the charges,” said a source close to the family.
During the arrest, the junta seized two mobile phones and 800,000 MMK. Soldier’s also beat the victim during the arrest. The mother of Ko Min Lwin Oo was also arrested in November, 2021 but released later.
The Dawei Strike Committee released a statement on June 21, 2023 saying the arrest of Ko Min Lwin Oo’s father was a cowardly act of the military junta.
