Junta seals off and seizes home of NUG Labour Minister

On June 13, 2023, the junta sealed off and seized the house of Nai Thu Wunna, the Union Minister of Labour for the National Union Government (NUG).
The Senior Mon politician, Nai Thu Wunna was appointed as Minister of Labour by the NUG government on March 31, 2021.
The incident took place in Ward #7, Tone Eye village, Hpa-An Township, Karen State.
On two previous occasions the junta sealed off the house, but this time, the owner was charged under the Anti-Terrorist Act and the house and property were seized.
“There were more than 20 members from the police and the General Administration Department. Previously, the district and township authorities sealed off the house twice. But this time, the junta sealed off the house door with wax,” said a villager from Tone Eye village.
Before sealing off the house, the junta took everything from the home.
“It isn’t a surprise to me. The houses of other Ministers were also sealed off. Some houses were burnt down. The junta always does acts of terrorism,” said Nai Thu Wunna.
The houses of U Tin Win, the Burmese Affairs Minister with the National League for Democracy (NLD) Party and the home of a member of Karen State CRPH in Tone Eye village were sealed off and seized by the junta.
According to the Assistance Association for the Political Prisoners (AAPP), more than 750 houses and buildings have been sealed off ,0or seized since the coup took place on Feb 1, 2021.
