HURFOM: On June 4, 2023, the military junta launched artillery attacks targeting the area controlled by the 1st Brigade of the Karen National Liberation Army in Thaton Township, Mon State.
Residents from three villages in the area had to flee their homes.
Two Light Infantry Battalions and two Artillery Battalions (the 24th, the 206th, the 402nd and the 502nd) all launched attacks targeting Ka Zine, Suu Inn and Ah Nyar Da Wel villages forcing residents to flee from their homes.
“People from three villages have left their native places. But they haven’t gone very far. As it is the rainy season, they hid in a nearby plantation or the forest. Some villagers are still staying in the villages in fear,” said a Ka Zine resident.
A 50-year-old woman from Ka Zine was hit by an artillery shell and suffered an injury to her leg. She was sent to the Thaton District General Hospital.
“Done Da Me” check-point was attacked and the military junta might respond with these artillery attacks. We’re still collecting information on the number of villagers who have to flee,” said an official with the Thaton District Karen National Union.
