Junta soldier rapes elderly woman in That Yet Chaung

HURFOM: On September 27^th, 2025, a junta soldier (private class) raped a 75-year-old woman. The elderly was from Oak Tu village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division.

A regiment based in Tha Yet Chaung Township had advanced into Thin Kyune and Yan Taung villages on September 21^st and stationed themselves for four days in the villages. Then, they advanced into Oak Tu village.

As the regiment advanced most villagers fled their homes; however, those who were unable to flee remained in the village. That was the situation for elderly women who had suffered from a leg amputation.

“The rape incident occurred at about 4 pm. The woman lived with her younger sister but the sister was away at the time. The soldier was drunk when he entered her house. The elderly victim has since moved away from Oak Tu village,” said a local source.

It is believed the rapist is from either the 403^rd, the 404^th or the 405^th Light Infantry Battalions which are based in Tha Yet Chaung Township.

Such incidents have occurred before. On June 15^th, 2025, 40-year-old Phoe Chay – a private from the 406^th and the 273^rd LIB repeatedly raped a 72-year-old woman from Long Lone Township.
