HURFOM: In Tha Yet Chaung Township, two young men from Kanet Thiri Village were arrested by junta soldiers near the Winwa checkpoint along the Dawei–Myeik road.

According to local residents, the men were stopped and detained close to the Winwa bridge near the military checkpoint at around 6 p.m. on September 23 as they were returning home from Sone Sin Village.

“They were arrested when it was already getting dark. We don’t know the reason, and their families are very worried,” explained a villager from Kanet Thiri.

The detainees, both 30 years old and from Pain Nel ward in Kanet Thiri Village, have not been seen since. Their parents are desperately trying to locate them, but no information has been released on their whereabouts.

Only a few days earlier, troops stationed near the Winwa cemetery detained another man from Mindat Village while he was passing through the checkpoint in the evening.

Local sources report that while most checkpoints along the Dawei–Myeik road between Tha Yet Chaung and Palaw have been withdrawn, the junta has kept its Winwa camp active. In addition, an extra checkpoint was set up this year at the Winwa cemetery, making the route increasingly unsafe for travelers.
