Junta forces stationed in Auk Kin village, Tanintharyi Township, have arbitrarily arrested two local young men in separate incidents, according to local sources.
On the evening of 24 June 2025, a young man in his early 20s from Auk Kin village, who was riding a motorbike, was intercepted and arrested by soldiers manning a roadside checkpoint. The troops responsible are reportedly from Infantry Battalion No. 557, which has been stationed in the area.
“He was beaten during interrogation. Locals said he could barely walk after the assault. Later, he was transferred to the main detention center in Tanintharyi town, and his current condition remains unknown,” said a local villager who witnessed the aftermath.

In a separate case that same evening, another motorbike rider—also in his early 20s and a resident of Ban La Mut village—was arrested by the same military unit while passing near Kaw Ma Pyin village, close to Auk Kin. According to family members and witnesses, both young men were later transferred to the Tanintharyi detention center.
“We were allowed to visit them about a week after their arrest. But we still don’t know their current condition or whether they’re still being detained,” a family member said.
As of the afternoon of 28 June, both young men remained in detention without formal charges or release.
Local monitors report that more than 20 people have been detained in recent weeks along the Union Road in Tanintharyi Township. The majority of those arrested are from Ban La Mut village, though individuals from other states and regions have also been targeted. Several of them were reportedly sent to military training camps against their will.
