HURFOM: Since early June, 2025, children under 15 years of age in Mon State have been suffering from dengue fever.
According to the junta-controlled Public Health Department, Mon State has recorded more than a hundred dengue patients and at least one death due to the disease.
“Dengue fever comes with the rainy season. There are not too many patients this month but in July and August, approximately 20 patients will be admitted per day. The most common age range is under five, but children under 15 years old can suffer from dengue fever. If the condition is severe, the patient can die,” said a staff from the Public Health Department.

Currently, the Mawlamyine Child Hospital is full with children suffering from dengue fever and their parents who came to take care of them.
“My nephew was suffering from dengue fever and had to be admitted to the Mawlamyine Child Hospital for ten days. The three stories of the hospital were full of child patients. Most of them are under five. There was no space for a patient guardian to stay or sleep,” said a resident from Ye Township.
The military junta has neglected the health care system and there are no concrete procedures of protection and treatment leaving the outbreak of diseases to worsen.
“There was mosquito fogging and abatement once a week in the past. But now, we never see such preventative measures,” said a resident.
From January to May, 2025, there were more than 860 patients with dengue fever and four recorded deaths attributed to the disease across Burma.
