Junta’s regiment burgles nearly 200 houses in Kyike Hto

HURFOM: On May 16th, 2025, a military junta regiment consisting of more than 300 troops advanced into Win Kan village tract, Kyike Hto Township, Mon State and stationed themselves in the area for four days.

According to the local sources and the Thaton District Karen National Union (KNU, the regiment burgled nearly 200 houses and a village monastery stealing furniture and valuables

They burgled nearly every house. They broke the safe box and took ten million MMK which was donated by the villagers to repair the monastery. They mostly targeted shops and homes owned by wealthy persons,” said a Win Kan villager.

On May 20th, the regiment burnt down and destroyed five houses including the house of the KNU Administrator of Win Kan village.

The regiment retreated to Shwe Kyin Township, Pegu Division on the May 21st; bug continued to target Win Kan village with indiscriminate artillery attacks, according to Pa Doe Saw Aye Nine, the Secretary of the Thaton District KNU.

The military advance forced 2,721 residents from Win Kan, Ball Ka Hta, Kyauk Yay Twin, Ka Law Myaung, Shan Su and Ah Nyar Su villages to flee their homes. Most are now no longer livable.

Heavy armed clashes have persisted in Kyike Hto Township since the last week of April, 2025 and more than 17,000 residents fled from their homes, stated the Thaton District KNU.
