Junta seizes PSI satellite receivers in Ye Township: Right to information violated
May 23, 2025
HURFOM: On May 4th, 2025, approximately 20 military junta troops entered Du Yar and Ah Sin villages, Southern Ye Township, Mon State where they forcefully seized PSI satellite receivers installed in private homes. This type of technology enables users to access free and independent media sources.
Local sources reported to HURFOM that junta’s troops claimed the receivers were illegal devices and subject to seizure.

“They came in two military trucks. They seized every satellite receiver they saw alongside the road saying “This satellite receiver is illegal so we have to take it”. We also saw three or four receivers they seized from Ah Sin village on their truck,” said a local villager.
The junta has been conducting a check on houses, mobile phone stores and electronic stores in Ye Town in order to ensure no one is selling or installing a PSI satellite receiver.
From February 1, 2021, the junta has routinely violated rights to information by killing, arresting or jailing reporters and cutting off public access to internet networks across Burma. The search and seizure of PSI satellites is a continuation of that policy.
