Nine residents arrested within two days in Pu Law

HURFOM: On January 25th and 26th, 2025, junta forces from the 285th Light Infantry Battalion were conducting a night patrol and arrested nine residents from Pu Law Town, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division.

At about 7 pm on January 25th, seven residents were arrested at the security gate nearby the Pu Law Bridge.

At about 8 pm on January 26th, junta forces arrested 32-year-old Ko Phone Thet and 33-year-old Ko Karm Ngae from Ward #4, Pu Law Town.

At the moment, about 20 young men and CDM staff were arrested in Pu Law. Some were arrested for conscription but some were accused of contributing to the detonation of a bomb at the military security office. Arrests are happening very frequently, I’m worrying a lot about my son’s safety,” said one Pu Law resident.

Most of the arrested young men have been sent to the military training school in Dawei District, and some have been detained at the 285th Light Infantry Battalion base. None has been allowed to meet with family members.

On January 11th, 2025, the regiment launched a military operation in Pu Law Township arresting three residents from Ta Po village. Among them, 45-year-old U Kyi Soe was killed in the interrogation camp of the 103rd Light Infantry Battalion in Shwe Bay village.

Family members were informed of his death only after 18 days of his arrest. He’s been suffering from an illness since the arrest and he was also tortured in the interrogation camp,” said a local source.

In December, 2024, the military junta had arrested 340 residents from the Tenasserim Division under various accusations. Only 107 were released and five were killed, according to a report by the FE5 Tanintharyi.
