HURFOM: In the second week of January, 2025, the military junta instructed each ward or village in Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim to recruit three to five conscripts for military service.

After receiving this instruction, Administrator Myo Aung, of 10 Mile village called a meeting on January 13th and demanded 50,000 MMK from each household who have a male family member eligible for conscription.

10 Mile village must send five conscripts. The Administrator has started collecting money from households who have male family members. Each man must pay 50,000 MMK. The household must pay for those who are working abroad. If a family has five male members, they must pay for five persons,” said a 10-Mile resident.

10 Mile village has eight wards and the Administrator and the member of the pro-military Union Solidarity and Development Party Win Kyaw, have been extorting money from the villagers.

The monetary extortion started on January 16th.

The military junta has threatened the village/ward Administrators that if not enough conscripts are found, they will raid the village/ward and conduct arbitrary arrests.
