HURFOM: The local residents reported HURFOM that the military junta gave an instruction that at least three to five conscripts per ward or villages in Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division must be sent as conscripts.
Kaw Thaung Township has more than 20 wards or villages and conscripts must be sent depending on the size of ward or village. The junta has sent a notice letters to each ward or village administrator.
“Kaw Thaung Town has more than five big wards. The junta’s soldiers will conduct arbitrary arrest in the ward that doesn’t sent conscripts,” said a Kaw Thaung resident.
Young men in the township dare not go outside late night and some of them have started to flee from their home due to the instruction.
“No one goes outside after 7 pm. Some young men are hiding in the plantation. Only elderly persons and children are left in the village,” said a resident from Sell Mile Ward, Kaw Thaung Town.
In 2024, the junta arrested ten middle-aged men who were working at the shipyard and forced them to join the army. In July 30th, 2024, the junta also arrested 26 young men who were sent back by the Thai authority and detained them in the 262nd light infantry battalion.
