Junta’s regiment kills villager and arrests sixteen residents in Yebyu

HURFOM: On December 17th, 2024, local resistance forces attacked and now control the military junta’s “Microwave Tower Military Base” in Kan Bauk Ye Kan Taung, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division.

After the defeat, the junta sent additional troops in eight military trucks on December 18th and launched operations in Pa Ya, Kway Ma Phor, Dike Ta Kaw, Khaung Pyan and Zar D villages.

On December 18th, the regiment arrested 40-year-old U Aung Kyi Thein and 18-year-old Ko Way Lu Kyaw from Kyaw Ma Phor village.

Then, a 50-year-old local man, a 60-year-old mentally-ill woman, a husband and his new wife, a breastfeeding mother, and three other mothers and sons from Zar D village were also arrested.

The regiment also arrested two families of 8 persons in Zar D village.

On December 23rd, U Aung Kyi Thein was found dead near the cemetery of Kway Ma Phor village.

He was severely beaten after the arrest. They buried half of the body and covered it with tree branches. The body already smelled foul. The regiment is still active in the area and we can’t cremate the body. Another arrested villager is still missing,” said a local villager.

18-year-old Ko Way Lu Kyaw who was arrested with U Aung Kyi Thein and has disappeared without a trace.  16 other residents who were also arrested in Zar D village have not yet been released.

On December 20th, the junta targeted Zar D village with artillery attacks for the whole day. They also burnt down houses. I could see that from away. We don’t know how many houses were burnt down as the regiment is still in the village,” said a villager.

The regiment has stationed themselves in Zar D village forcing residents from Zar D, Pa Ya, Kway Ma Phor, Dike Da Kaw and Khaung Pyan villages to flee their homes.
