Junta’s soldiers rob shop run by villager in Tenasserim

HURFOM: On December 14th, 2024, two soldiers with the military junta robbed a shop run by a villager in Htan Pin Gone village, Za Well village tract, Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division. The soldiers took his mobile phone and cash.
Two soldiers arrived at U Phya Chit’s shop by motorbike at 11 pm and threatened him with both a gun and knife, and then robbed him of his mobile phone and 400,000 MMK of cash.
“They had a gun and a knife. They pointed at him with a gun and knife. Then, they took the phone and cash. They also took some bottles of soft drink from the shop,” said a local villager.
Before the robbery, at 9 pm, a soldier was shopping at the store, but did not pay for the goods he took. He is one of the soldiers who robbed his shop at night, according to a local woman who is close to U Phay Chit’s family.
“As the soldier left without paying, U Phya Chit asked for the money. He explained to him that he faced loss due to robbery and he lost his house in fire. Then, the soldier replied, “I’m one of the soldiers who burnt down your house last week and now, I don’t want to pay. What do you say?”, said the woman.
In November, 2024, the junta’s troops entered Za Well villages and burnt down houses. U Phay Chit’s house was one of the houses burnt down by the soldiers.
