HURFOM: According to local sources, between December 4th and the 10th, 2024, the military junta destroyed eight village roads in Tenasserim Township, Tenasserim Division.

The junta destroyed two concrete bridges on Za Well – Phar Ne Motorway in Ta Ku village tract on December 4th. On December 5th, they destroyed portions of three roads in Western Ram Pho village. On December 9th and 10th, the junta used explosives and a bulldozer to destroy the Ta Moke Chone Motorway which is a part of the Myeik – Boat Pyin Highway Road in Pa Wa village tract.

They bulldozed two concrete bridges on Za Well – Phar Ne Motorway in Ta Ku village track and planted landmines in the area,” said a local source.

Because of the planted landmine, residents from Ta Ka, Thar Ra Bwin and Ban Law villages have been facing transportation problems and they are unable to import rice, food and other goods.

The length of road destroyed by the junta is more than 50 ft. They dug about a five-ft deep hole alongside the road. They dug on one side of the road and piled the soil on the other side. They destroyed the entire road,” said a Ta Moke Chone resident.

The local villagers said a bag of rice was priced at about 100,000 MMK before the destruction of the village roads, now the price has risen to 150,000 MMK and the product is out of stock.

It is only one hour drive from Ta Ku village to Tenasserim Town but it will take more than three hours if you travel by boat. Villagers are now concerned about how they will be able to respond to emergencies.

Battles between the military junta and the local resistance forces have gained momentum in Tenasserim Township and the military junta has been cutting off telecommunication; destroying village roads and planting landmines in the area.
