HURFOM: On November 20th, 2024, the military junta arrested two local men, 50-year-old U Khin Oo and 38-year-old Ko Kyaw Soe, from Ye Twin Taung village, Kaw Thaung Township, Tenasserim Division while conducting the census in the village.
“We don’t know why they were arrested. They haven’t been released yet. It looks like the junta suspected them of something”,” said a local source.
Since November 16th, the junta has deployed about 50 troops to conduct the census for the second time in Mar Ram, Sake Phu, Aung Chan Thu and Ye Twin Taung villages of Shan Koe region.
“They didn’t conduct a census at every house. They just selected the houses of migrants and some households. If something is suspicious while they are conducting the census, they immediately arrest the residents,” said a local villager.
The military junta previously announced plans to collect and finalize the 2024 census between October 1st to 15th, 2024, but the military junta plans to conduct the census up until the end of November in Kaw Thaung Township.
