Junta arrests doctor in Mawlamyine

HURFOM: At 11 pm on November 13th, 2024, a joint security team consisting of soldiers and police used excessive force to arrest Dr Aung Phyo in his “Thiri Mingalar” apartment, Mawlamyine, Mon State.
“The junta accused him of contributing to previous protests and arrested him. Dr Aung Phyo made a major contribution to protests against military dictatorship. But he’s just operating his own clinic now. They manipulated his past activities to arrest him,” said a Mawlamyine resident.
Dr Aung Phyo has been detained at the military interrogation center and has not been allowed to meet with family members.
The military junta’s joint security team has been conducting “stop and checks” at night in Mawlamyine. The team arbitrarily arrests and extorts young men. They claim they are checking “visitors’ list” and invade houses to conduct arrests, report Mawlamyine residents.
On November 12th, 2024, the junta arrested U Aung Khine, an activist and former member of the 88th generation, who had been living in B Hline Ward, Mawlamyine.
