Junta arrests two young men after accusing them of being PDF members

HURFOM: On November 13th, 2024, a military junta’s joint security team was conducting a “stop and check” at the junction on the Yangon-Mawlamyine Highway Road near Paw Thaw Mu village, Thaton Township, Mon State where they arrested two young men riding a motorbike from Bilin to Thaton Town.
“As far as I know, they arrested the two young men for riding the same motorbike. But, later, the junta said they found evidence of a connection with the PDF (Peoples’ Defence Force) on their mobile phones and arrested them,” said a source familiar with the incident.
The two young men are, 21-year-old Maung Aung Thura from Hnin Pa Lell village, Bilin Township and 20-year-old Maung Kyaw Zin Phyo from Oak Tan Dar village, Paung Township.
They have been detained and interrogated at the Office of the Thaton District Police Force. Their families have made extraordinary efforts to contact them, according to a source close to the police force.
“Stop and checks” have been taking place across Mon State, including arbitrarily arresting young pedestrians after accusing them of being members of the PDF.
On November 11th, 2024, the junta arrested and charged two underaged boys in Kyike Hto Township after accusing them of being PDF members.
