Young man arrested in military operation, found dead within 5 days

HURFOM: On October 28th, 2024, the military junta launched an operation in Tha Yet Hna Kwa village, Tha Yet Chaung Township, Tenasserim Division. During the operation, 27-year-old Ko Htike from Yan Taung village was riding his motorbike when he encountered the regiment and was arrested.
He disappeared after the arrest and on November 2nd, his dead body was found in a rubber plantation where the regiment stationed themselves near Tha Yet Hna Kwa village, according to a young resident.
“After the regiment left the village, the villagers from Tha Yet Hna Kwa and Yan Taung villages searched for him on November 2nd. His dead body was buried in a narrow hole and covered with betel nut leaves. But one of his arms was exposed,” said the resident.
The body was in a state of extreme decay and it looked like he was tortured before being killed.
“When we found the body, it was totally decayed so we cremated the remains where we found them,” said another resident.
On October 28th, the regiment also launched a military operation in Oak Tu village and burnt down three houses. A village monastery from Tha Yet Hna Kwa village was also burnt down and destroyed by the artillery attack.
The regiment also looted valuables, including furniture and motorbikes from the houses of displaced villagers in Tha Yet Hna Kwa and Mell Nell Old villages and took them in three lorry trucks.
