HURFOM: On September 1st, 2024, 26-year-old primary school teacher Daw Chit Chit Htoo from Mu Kwell village, Chaung Zone Township, Mon State disappeared, after her lover, a junta soldier Aung Thu Hein sent for her via taxi.
On September 8th, 2024, the dead body of Daw Chit Chit Htoo was found near “Dat Paung Zu Mahar Zayti” in Mu Kwell village. The body had stab wounds and it appeared she was raped before being killed.
Two weeks later, Aung Thu Hein and his accomplice Ma San San Aye were caught in Pa Thein City. They were detained and interrogated by the military court at the 96th Light Infantry Battalion based in Thane Za Yet, Kyike Hto Township.
On October 5th, family members of Daw Chit Chit Htoo were informed by letter that the case of Aung Thu Hein would be handed over to the Mawlamyine District civilian’s court.
“He ran away from the military so he’ll be punished by the military court first. Then, within five or six days, he’ll be handed over to the civilian’s court,” said one of the victim’s relatives.
The source continued that Aung Thu Hein would be charged with rape, murder and robbery.
“We’ve already consulted with our attorney. We hope that the accomplice will be punished with a 15-year imprisonment, and he (Aung Thu Hein) will be punished with lifetime imprisonment,” said a family member of the victim.
