Junta arrests eight social workers and two civilians in Thanbyuzayat

HURFOM: From September 18th to 22nd, 2024, the military junta have arrested eight social workers and two civilians from Thanbyuzayat Town, Mon State after accusing them of supporting the People Defense Force.
On September 18th, the junta used excessive forces to raided the office of “Pine Shin Melt” social and rescue team in Aung Min Galar Ward, Thanbyuzayat Town and arrested five members including the chairman.
On September 20th, the junta has arrested other two members and on September 22nd, two 30-year-old local men from Kyant Khine Ye and Koe Na Win Ward were arrested.
“All the arrested have been accused of having connection with the PDF. The junta has claimed they transported weapons and “supportive materials” to the PDF,” said a local source.
All the arrested have been detained at the 315th artillery battalion in Wel Ka Lee village, Thanbyuzayat Township.
Besides arrest in downtown area, the junta has also arrested civilians at their home in rural area.
“In the last week of previous month, the junta arrested a medic in our village and hasn’t released him yet as of today,” said a resident from a village in Thanbyuzayat Township.
On March 25th, 2024, the junta arrested 20-year-old young men from War Kha Ru village, Thanbyuzayat Township after accusing him of supporting the PDF and on February 28th, 2024, a local young man was arrested after accusing of being the PDF member.
In late November and December, 2023, nearly 70 civilians including the Director of the Township General Administration Department, businesspersons and local residents, were arrested under the similar accusations.
Among the arrested, two victims were killed in the “military interrogation center” and more than 20 houses and shops of them were sealed and seized by the junta.
