Junta’s troops burn and kill three villagers in Pu Law

HURFOM: On September 18th and 19th, 2024, a junta’s regiment consisted of about 200 troops launched a military operation and entered Shat Pone village, Pu Law Township, Tenasserim Division and then, they burnt down three houses in San Pya Ward and other 31 houses in Mee Laung Au Ward.

During burning down the houses, the junta’s troops also burnt and killed Grandman Daw Pu from Mee Laung Au Ward, 20-year-old mentally-ill Maung Thura and another unknown villager who were stuck in the village.

Three villagers were burnt and killed. They were Grandma Daw Pu from Mee Laung Au and Maung Thura and another unknown villager from San Pya Ward. The last one was severely burnt so we could clarify its identity,” said a local woman from Shat Pone village.

The regiment also arrested 50 displaced villagers who took a shelter at “Hta Min Swell Kyaw” Monastery.

Among the arrested, the women were released on the same day. But the 30 men have been detained at the 385 light infantry battalion in Pu Law. One of the arrested men paid three million MMK to the military and he was already released,” said a local source.

Shat Pone village has more than 2,500 houses and thousands of residents have to flee home due to burning down and destroying houses and arresting and killing villagers by the junta’s troops.

The military junta has been launching operation in Pu Law Township since early August, 2024 and there has been an intense battle between the junta’s regiment and the local People Defense Forces.

The junta’s troops have frequently committed burning down houses and arresting and killing of local villagers in Pu Law Township and on September 14th, they burnt down nine houses in “Nagr Mile” village and arrested more than ten local men.

Moreover, the junta’s troops also arrested 45 residents from Lat Phell and Kyauk Thin Baw Sake villages and used them as human shield. The five residents from Lat Phell village have not been released yet, as of today.

From April, 2024 to August, 2024, the junta’s regiments and the local resistance forces have burnt down and destroyed 417 houses in Pu Law Township, 345 houses in Long Lone Township, 113 houses in Tha Yet Chaung Township, 128 houses in Yebyu Township, 89 houses in Dawei Township, 38 houses in Dawei Township, 32 houses in Kaw Thaung Township, 4 houses in Kyune Su Township and other 4 houses in Boat Pyin Township.
