HURFOM: On September 9th, 2024, the joint People’s Defense Forces attacked the “Pyu Saw Htee” military base in Kyauk Ne Maw village, Long Lone Township, Tenasserim Division.
Following the attack, a military regiment consisting of about 100 troops entered Kyauk Ne Maw village by navy ship and stationed themselves in the village.
Then another regiment consisting of about 20 troops launched military operations in Kyauk Ne Maw, Out Kyauk Wut, Za Lot, Pyin Gyi and Inn Ne Twin villages forcing local villagers to flee their homes.
“The villagers have taken temporary shelter at nearby villages and monasteries. At the moment, there are about 120 displaced villagers. The local strike committee and the community organizations have been providing food to them,” said a resident from Za Lot village.
The junta’s artillery attack injured 40-year-old Ko Than Zaw from Za Lot village and destroyed a house. Also, 27-year-old Ko Nine Htay was arrested.
“Ko Than Zaw sustained injuries to his face, abdomen, legs and private parts. Nearly all houses in Za Lot village had been searched from top to bottom and destroyed by the troops. The troops also looted “things” from a grocery store in the village. They took so many things, it took them three trips. I’ve learnt that our house has been looted and destroyed today,” said a displaced woman.
Local villagers said Ko Nine Htay was shot and killed in the Kyauk Ne Maw Police Station but HURFOM has been unable to confirm this.
“They also chased the Abbot of Za Lot village and searched and destroyed the monastery. At 7 pm on that day (September 12th), troops went back to Kyuak Ne Maw village with the “things” they looted from the village,” said a displaced person.
Since late August, 2024, the military junta has launched operations in villages in Long Lone Township with troops destroying and burning down residential houses, looting valuable things and arresting local villagers to use them as human shields.
