Many villagers suffer from skin diseases in Long Lone and junta bans transportation of medicine

HURFOM: Since June, 2024, many residents from villages in Long Lone Township, Dawei District, Tenasserim Division have been suffering from skin diseases but the military junta has banned the transportation of medicine creating health problem to the patients.
In June, July and August, 2024, approximately 600 residents from Out Kyauk Wut, Kyauk Wut Pyin, Kyauk Mat Tat, Kyat Hlot, Nyaung Pyin and Htut Nat villages have suffered from skin diseases and seasonal flu.
As of the first week of September, 2024, Out Kyauk Wut and Nyaung Pyin villages has about 200 patients who have been suffering from skin diseases.
“The skin diseases have started in late July. Then, it’s transformed into a diseases like water pox. The situation is getting worse,” said a local source from Long Lone Township.
The military junta has banned free transportation of medicine in Long Lone Township since 2022. The People Defense Forces have been supporting the patients with medicine but it is not enough.
“We’re talking with the truck drivers to transport medicine. But if the situation is getting worse and worse, we’ll face shortage of medicine,” said a social worker.
Villagers from Out Kyuak Wut and Nyaung Pyin villages have a harsh livelihood in rainy season and do not have money to buy medicine.
