Five arrested Shat Pone residents not released yet

HURFOM: A junta’s regiment consists of about 70 troop had launched a military operation to Shat Pone village, Pu Law Township, Myeik District, Tenasserim Division and arrested five local villagers. The regiment arrested three villagers on August 28, 2024 and other two villagers were arrested on August 29th.
The five villagers have been arrested and detained at a monastery in War Tan Ward where the regiment has stationed themselves. The arrested have not been released as of today, September 4th, 2024.
“The villagers have been arrested for about five days. They haven’t released yet. They have been detained at the military base. The regiment hasn’t sent them anywhere,” said a Shat Pone resident.
There has been an armed clash in Shat Pone village and the regiment has been arresting civilians. The incidents have forced local villagers from 2,500 houses to flee their home.
“Most villagers have fled home when the regiment entered the village. Only middle-aged men are left to guard their houses,” said another Shat Pone resident.
The social workers who help displaced persons told HURFOM that the displaced Shat Pone residents are urgently in need of food.
