Two villagers arrested ten days ago still not released

HURFOM: On August 13th, 2024, 50-year-old U Thein Myint Lwin, aka Ko Su Kan and 25-year-old Ko Zayar Oo from Phaung Taw village, Yebyu Township, Tenasserim Division were arrested by troops from the Mawrawaddy Navy Command, at their home, at night.

The pair were arrested ten days ago, but they have not been released yet, according to a Phaung Taw resident.

The two men didn’t usually stay at their home. They mostly stayed at their plantation in Ohm Pin Kwin village. On the night of their arrest, they were at home and the junta’s troops arrested them at 8 pm. We don’t know why they were arrested,” said the resident.

The two villagers have been detained at the Kanbauk based Mawrawaddy Navy Command and they have not been allowed to meet with their family members.

Their family members are inquiring about them.  But they aren’t allowed to meet with them,” continued the resident.

On June 19, 2024, the Mawrawaddy Navy Command also arrested four residents from Phuang Taw village.

According to the FE5 Tanintaryi, at least 94 civilians were arrested by the junta in June, 2024. Only 66 were released and one died in detention.
