Some displaced villagers face difficulties filing registration form for monetary support

HURFOM: Between July 13th and the 19th, 2024, domestic and international donors, monks and Mon charity groups have been providing monetary support to displaced persons and those who lost their houses in artillery attacks from Kyaing Rivier area, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State.

Each household of displaced persons will receive 150,000 MMK and other household items.

However, displaced villagers must file a registration form to receive monetary support and they have had difficulty doing so.

I run a shop in Mawlamyine so I’ve brought my father and mother to stay with me. But my mother has to return to the village to file the registration form. As there have been so many villagers affected, the lines are very long, making the task difficult. My mother has gone back twice over two consecutive days but is still unable to file the form. The security conditions on the way aren’t good. There have been attacks from drones. I’m worried about her safety,” said a woman native to Dhammasa village.

Some displaced villagers have not received monetary support due to living in a remote area and are unaware of the necessity to complete the registration form.

All villagers who filled the registration form got monetary support. But some villagers are staying in remote areas and they didn’t get the information about the support so they’re left behind,” said a local woman.

During the first week of July, 2024, the donation amounts given to displaced persons were as high as 250,000 MMK and the second time was 200,000 MMK.

The Mon State government, which is controlled by the military, has not provided any support for the rehabilitation program for displaced persons from villages in Kyaing River area.
