At least 15 residents killed and nearly 400 houses burnt down due to junta’s brutal attack

HURFOM: Since the last week of March, 2024, at least 15 residents of Gyaing River, Kyikemayaw Township, Mon State and Kaw Ka Rate Township, Karen State were killed and nearly 400 houses were burnt to the ground, as a result of the military junta’s air and artillery attacks.
In April of this year, seven residents from Dhammasa village, a senior monk from Than Ga Long village, Kyikemayaw Township and five residents from Kaw Bane village and a resident from Kaw Swell village, Kaw Ka Rate Township were also killed by the junta.
Due to the junta’s artillery attacks, seven residents from Dhammasa village, three residents from Kyune Kone village and five residents from Kaw Bane village were injured.
“Those who die within a month were mostly killed by the artillery attack. Children and women were also included in the victims’ list,” said a local source.
The junta’s air and artillery attacks destroyed and burnt down more than 350 houses in Dhammasa, ten houses in An Ka Sin and two houses in Kaw Mate villages.
“A monastery in Dhammasa was also destroyed and burnt down. Now, the soldiers have stationed themselves at village monasteries,” said a resident from Kyikemayaw Township.
The military regiment based at Kaw Bane village also arrested 10 local villagers.
Due to the junta’s “clearance operation” and ongoing brutal attack on civilians, around ten thousand residents from Kyikemayaw and Kaw Ka Rate Township have fled their homes and are unable to return home as of today.
